Fourth straight SSAC road game ends in four set loss

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Long runs characterized Saturday afternoon's SSAC contest in Hattiesburg, Miss. but it was the Crusaders who strung more together as the Lady Eagles (9-10) dropped to 3-3 in league play in four sets 25-21, 20-25, 25-14, 25-21 in Faulkner's fourth of five consecutive league road games.

William Carey (11-6, 5-1 SSAC) flipped a four-point first set deficit into a 22-18 lead with an 8-0 run from five attack errors with two Crusader blocks to take the first.

Haven Owings's kill at 20-all in the second stanza earned a side-out and started a 5-0 run with a kill from Julia Rice. Owings ended the night with the most kills on the team at 11 and Rice second with 10.

For the first time in 32 sets dating back to the fifth set against Brenau nearly a month ago, the Lady Eagles hit a negative attack percentage in the third set.

A block by Alexis McInroy and Julia Rice knotted things at 21 as Faulkner tried to force a 5th, but William Carey closed the match on a 4-0 run.

As a squad Faulkner recorded double-digit blocks for the third time this season, but this is the first time ending on the losing end. Rice ended with six blocks, McInroy and Owings had four, and Alysa Vinson three.

Alyssa Stagner picked up another double-double with 35 assists and 13 digs. Sarah-Gracen Watts and McInroy led the team with 15 digs each.

The Lady Eagles conclude the Odyssean conference road trip in Mobile against the Rams Tuesday night. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
