MT. VERNON, Ga. - Faulkner clinched its second consecutive trip to the conference postseason despite a 3-1 loss Saturday afternoon on the road against SSAC foe Brewton-Parker.
Brewton-Parker opened the scoring in the 29th and quickly tripled the lead with goals in the 62nd and 63rd minutes, all by three different players.
Annabel Cuthbert scored in the 89th minute from
Maria Wharton who chipped the ball in for her forward to finish far post with the first touch off the right foot. It was Cuthbert's third goal of the season and Wharton's first collegiate assist.Â
Both keepers turned in solid performances with
Reagan Embry stopping six shots for Faulkner and Kelsie Stapler saving eight for the Barons.Â
Faulkner is tied with the Roadrunners in the standings (6 points) but Dalton State will play Talladega (0 points) Saturday in a rescheduled contest. The duo sit three points behind Mobile (9 points) while the Rams play national No. 1 William Carey who sealed the conference top seed with 18 point and wins over Brewton-Parker and Middle Georgia who play each other and are three points behind the Crusaders.
The Lady Eagles welcome Dalton State for the regular season finale Thursday at 5:00 p.m.Â
