MT. VERNON, Ga. - Faulkner broke out the brooms against the Barons, winning in straight sets 25-7, 25-15, 25-18 on the road in an SSAC contest Friday night. The win, coupled with Talladega's loss to Loyola and Mobile's win against Middle Georgia, means a win Saturday against the Knights locks Faulkner into the five seed for the conference tournament.
The Lady Eagles came out flying with 14 kills en route to a 21-3 lead before ending with 16 kills to just one error in the first set.
Julia Rice and
Alyssa Stagner sparked the route with three kills and a solo block in the first six points while Stagner earned an ace, a kill and three assists in the first seven.Â
Three aces and 12 kills to just four attack errors in the second set continued the momentum before closing the third by jumping to a 16-6 lead before coasting to the second true road sweep of the season and the first 3-0 victory for the squad since Sept. 18 against Middle Georgia.Â
Rice ended with a match-high 10 kills as seven Lady Eagles recorded multiple kills. Stagner picked up her third consecutive double-double with 26 assists and 11 digs.
Jordan Stewart led the floor in digs with 15. Faulkner led every major statistical category in the match, notably doubling Brewton-Parker's kill count of 20 and tripling the host's ace total of two.
