PENSACOLA, Fla. – A three-game week opened on a sour note for the Lady Eagles Tuesday night as Faulkner dropped a non-conference contest 75-70 at Pensacola Christian. Lauran Alvarez buried a three-pointer with 5:33 left in the first quarter to give PCC a lead it would never lose.
Pensacola Christian moved the advantage to nine by halftime and to as many as 15 in the third quarter.
Faulkner began whittling away at the double-digit deficit with 1:51 left in the third period with a pair of
Ashlyn Adkins three-pointers. As the buzzer sounded to end the frame, the visiting Lady Eagles had narrowed the gap to seven points.
Trailing by nine with 4:38 left, Faulkner started its final push.
Micala Fisanick connected on a put-back bucket and hit the subsequent free throw following a foul.
Olivia Colson hit a shot with 3:28 left to make it a four-point game before Adkins sunk two free throws just 20 seconds later. Leah Phelps hit a shot for PCC but Fisanick answered 12 seconds later to make it a 9-2 Faulkner run that left the squad down 66-64.
Faulkner could pull no closer as PCC hit seven of its eight free throws down the stretch to ice the win.
Alvarez starred for Pensacola Christian with 25 points and 13 rebounds. Leah Phelps added 17 points for PCC. Adkins topped Faulkner with 15 points and seven assists.
Morgan Holland added 13 points and 11 rebounds for her squad.
Faulkner (4-4) returns to action Friday in the Thanksgiving Classic when it hosts Pikeville.
