Faulkner walked it off for the second time in three games Saturday when it
Mike Battle drew a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the 13th inning to plate
Justice Lucas. The sequence handed the Eagles a 5-4 victory over Indiana Wesleyan, matching the same score from the game one walk-off win Friday.
The final sequence of the game came after Lucas doubled ahead of two straight walks to load the base. Battle, the third shortstop of the game for Faulkner, coaxed the game-winning walk to end the marathon outing that lasted three hours and 46 minutes.
Faulkner opened the scoring in the bottom of the second when
Tommy Reyes-Cruz doubled down the rightfield line before scoring on a
Jonathan Villa sacrifice fly. Lucas walked, stole second, moved to third on the Villa flyout and scored on a
Shawn Ross RBI fielder's choice.
Faulkner surrendered a run in the top of the fourth before adding one of its own in the home half of the inning.
Alex Arauz hit a leadoff single and later scored on a Reyes-Cruz RBI grounder to move the lead to 3-1.
The Wildcats responded with two runs in the top of the fifth to tie the game briefly. Faulkner took the lead again in the bottom of the fifth.
Justin Lara started the inning with a single before swiping second base. He moved to third on a Villa grounder.
Isaac Phillips then grounded to second to plate Lara for the 4-3 lead.
Indiana Wesleyan scored the tying run in the top of the eighth on a wild throw. The game remained 4-4 until the decisive moment in the 13th.
Antonio Frias struck out four batters over four and a third innings of work while scattering four hits and three earned runs.
Tyberius Correa fanned three over two and two-thirds scoreless innings of work.
Tyler Paulsen allowed one run over two innings before
Ford Hilyer came on for an inning and a third of scoreless work.
Stafford Quinnelly, who recorded the save in game two Friday, took to the mound with the bases loaded and only one out in the bottom of the 11th. He proceeded to induce a flyout and a grounder to end the inning before facing the minimum over the next two frames to secure the win.
Faulkner (6-0) is set to travel to Thomas University Friday for a three-game series before returning home to host Judson University Feb. 26.
