THOMASVILLE, Ga. – Faulkner won the weekend series with Thomas Saturday, splitting a doubleheader with the Nighthawks. The Eagles took game one 11-5 before dropping the game two 4-3.
Faulkner opened game one with a five-run first inning.
Isaac Phillips doubled ahead of an
Alex Arauz walk before
Justice Lucas homered to left for the 3-0 lead. After a
Sam Anthony single,
Tommy Reyes-Cruz homered to right to move the lead to 5-0.
The Eagles kept the bats going in the top of the second as
Justin Lara opened the frame with a triple before scoring on
Jonathan Villa's RBI single. Phillips singled to right before
Shawn Ross singled home courtesy runner
Mike Battle to make it 7-0. Phillips then scored on a Lucas grounder to set the lead at 8-0.
Thomas got on the board in the home half of the second to cut the deficit to 8-1. Be Seccombe then doubled before scoring on a wild pitch to get the run back. Ross's RBI single later in the inning move the lead to 10-1. Faulkner got its last run in the fifth on a Ross homer.
Antonio Frias struck out 11 over five and two-thirds while giving up four earned runs for the win.
Faulkner trailed game two 2-0 in the fourth before a rally tied it. Lucas singled to open the inning and scored on a Battle grounder. Lara then singled in Reyes-Cruz to make it 2-2.
Faulkner took the lead in the sixth when Lara doubled home Lucas to put the Eagles up 3-2. Thomas scratched out a run to tie it in the bottom of the sixth before walking it off in the seventh.
J.C. Toro struck out seven over five innings of work while allowing three earned runs.
Faulkner (7-1) hosts Judson University Friday in a doubleheader.
