Lady Eagles blank Mobile, knock off Rams for first time in program history

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Lady Eagles (3-9, 2-1 SSAC) took control of the SSAC matchup in the second half with top class goals from Nanako Omae and Amanda Oliviera to knock off Mobile 3-0, securing the program's first win against the Rams Thursday night. The Rams (2-7, 1-2 SSAC) had won 13 of the 14 prior meetings since Faulkner's soccer inception in 2004 with the one draw coming Nov. 8, 2012 with Faulkner advancing to the conference finals on penalties, also taking place at the Emory Folmar Soccer Complex.

With Mobile pushing for an equalizer with less than 20 minutes to play, Omae found space about 35 yards out from goal in the middle of the park and rainbowed a shot over Ram goalkeeper Payton Lewis to double Faulkner's advantage in the 73rd minute.

Oliveira sealed the game 12 minutes later as she dribbled across the top of the 18 before settling at the left side of the penalty arc and firing her first Faulkner goal in the top right corner.

In the 27th minute, Corrine Weissinger's run set up a blocked shot, giving the Lady Eagles their third corner kick of the contest. Klara Ebert had played the first two low and towards the top of the box, but Ainsley Lockwood delivered a high cross to the far post where Faith Pelletier-King redirected the first goal of the game with her thigh.

Megan White earned her third consecutive clean sheet with the most impressive save coming in the 82nd minute. Mia Mugford headed a free kick sent in by Anakah Madril about 8 yards from goal, but the keeper from San Angelo, Texas pushed the ball off the crossbar, preserving the hard-earned shutout. White ended with eight saves.

Coupled with White's performance, the Lady Eagle backline of Haley Bartell, Camila Parada, Taylor Strength and Adamarie Moreno held Mobile scoreless after the team allowed four goals on five shots on target in this year's 4-1 road loss on Halloween.

Pritchard Ndaira's team has now won three straight contests and is tied for third in the SSAC. They welcome Middle Georgia State Thursday night at 5 p.m. The Knights are currently first in the league and will enter the contest no lower than tied for first.
