Kelly's golden goal lifts Eagles to first win under Queiroz

PIKE ROAD, Ala. - Sam Kelly's golden goal lifted Faulkner to its first conference victory and Gabriel de Queiroz's first collegiate head coaching win in a 2-1 overtime decision over Middle Georgia Thursday night at Pike Road High School.

After diving on a ball on the touchline, Nic Fischer's booming punt found Kelly who headed to Daniel Oelmez. The German forward, who scored the opener in the first half, squared to the English striker who powered the final touch of the game past Knight goalkeeper James Price 18 seconds after gaining possession 120 yards away ending the match after 93:58.

In the 43rd minute, Gabriel Costa took a hard foul as he passed ahead to Antoine Marques before the French midfielder found Oelmez who scored his first collegiate goal.

Middle Georgia drew level in the 66th minute when Mario Martinez drilled a cross close across the goalmouth and Facundo Terra redirected it past Fischer.

Fischer earned his first win at Faulkner with six saves. Queiroz picked up his first head coaching win after taking over midyear.

The overtime strike capped a tumultuous evening on the pitch, seeing seven yellow cards and a straight red given. Hiago Gaspar received a red two minutes before the end of regulation, forcing the Eagles to play a man down for the rest of the match.

Pike Road's turf field played host to the event after the Wednesday storms made the grass fields at the Emory Folmar Complex unplayable.

The Eagles wrap up home play Saturday afternoon against Brewton-Parker. Kickoff is set for 5:30.
