MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Head Coach
Patrick McCarthy picked up his 700th career win Sunday afternoon in a 12-3 decision before the Eagles beat Stillman 28-6 in the second game of the doubleheader at Harrison Field.
Faulkner 12, Stillman 3
McCarthy sealed his 700th win early in the scheduled seven inning game with the Eagles getting a 9-1 advantage in the fourth while
J.C. Toro shut down the Tigers, limiting them to three hits while striking out seven in the complete game effort.
The Tigers pounced in the second inning when pitcher Colt Dozier led off with a double before scoring the opener on Sanders Napoles's double two batters later. However, the Stillman lead was short-lived as
Justice Lucas's double cleared
John Michael Mathews and
Tommy Reyes-Cruz in the bottom half.
Faulkner got three more in the third, four in the fourth and three in the fifth.
Jonathan Villa and Reyes-Cruz each had three hits in the game.
Tyler Paulsen and Mathews each had two.
Faulkner 28, Stillman 6
An 11 run second inning highlighted the largest conference victory since March 7, 2003 when Faulkner beat Shorter 36-4 on the road. The last time the Eagles scored double-digit runs in one inning was in the fifth inning against Blue Mountain on March 24, 2018 when they also scored 11.
Faulkner scored those 11 runs on just five hits as Stillman's pitching staff issued six walks and plunked two batters.
Justin Lara continued the rally with a grand slam in the third for his second round-tripper of the season.
Alex Arauz's three-run bomb highlighted the seven-run fifth as the Eagles jumped to a 27 run lead.
Arauz ended with seven RBI in the contest, the most by an Eagle since T.J. Condon also drove in seven against William Carey in the 2016 SSAC Tournament. Arauz, Phillips, Mathews and Lara each recorded three hits. Lara had five RBI while Phillips, Mathews, Anthony and Paulsen all had multiple RBI. 21 different Eagles played in the game.
Faulkner travels to Pulaski, Tenn. to face former conference foe Martin Methodist Tuesday.
