Lady Eagles rally to beat Loyola, fall to Reinhardt

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Lady Eagles rallied for a dramatic 3-2 conference win Thursday afternoon against Loyola before dropping a non conference contest 3-0 with Reinhardt at Tine Davis Gymnasium.

Faulkner 3, Loyola 2 (23-25, 19-25, 25-23, 25-19, 15-6)

After dropping the first two sets, Tori Renda changed up the game plan and installed a libero while switching the rotation to a 5-1 opposed to the 6-2 Faulkner had been running. In the third, the Lady Eagles faced an 11-4 deficit and stared down a sweep and decided it was not going to happen. In the last home weekend in her Faulkner career, Kortney Barnes recorded three kills and two solo blocks to capitalize on a bevy of Loyola errors to flip what eventually became an 18-13 Wolf Pack lead to a tie at 19-all. Trailing 23-21, kills from Mallory Black bookened a 4-0 run to extend the match and spark the comeback.

The attack came alive in the fourth set with 14 kills to just one assist hitting .325 as a squad. Barnes capped the fourth frame with all five kills in a 5-2 run.

The Lady Eagles sprinted to a 7-0 lead in the final set to 15 before Loyola's comeback attempt was thwarted by two Alysa Vinson kills to push the lead to 11-3. Barnes would get the final three kills to close the match. The middle blocker from Mobile ended the match with a career-high 17 kills on an absurd .593 attack percentage to couple the two solo blocks and an assisted block.

Hannah Bryan had a double-double with 11 kills and 13 digs. Jordan Stewart, who changed into the different colored jersey between the second and third sets, led the team with 25 digs. Vinson finished just one kill shy of a 20 dig double-double playing all six rotations. The do-it-all player from Pike Road, Ala. tallied a stat in every main category with three aces, an assist and an assisted block. Alyssa Stagner's 35 assists coupled 19 digs for another double-double.

Reinhardt 3, Faulkner 0 (25-15, 25-18, 25-20)

In a unique scenario, Reinhardt entered Thursday's regular season trimatch having already won the Appalachian Athletic Conference Tournament title. Having swept Loyola in the middle contest, Reinhardt's serve and attack lifted the visiting Eagles over Faulkner in the nightcap.

Sarah Sharpe and Mackenzie Littrell started their first collegiate matches against an Eagle side that fired eight aces and hit .250 as a team.

The first set featured three lead changes before the fourth put Reinhardt ahead for good at 11-10 and started a 15-5 run to end the first set.

Sarah-Gracen Watts served two aces as the hosting Eagles chopped an 8-3 deficit to an 8-7 one, but Reinhardt pulled away with a 7-2 run before closing on a 5-1 rally.

Faulkner led by as much as six in the third before Reinhardt stormed back with a to flip a 12-7 home team lead into a 19-15 away advantage.

Macy Kemper and Stewart tied for the dig lead with 10 each. Stagner's 10 assists and Littrell's six kills led the Lady Eagles. Faulkner won the block battle against Reinhardt 4-2.

The Lady Eagles welcome Mobile for the final regular season game Saturday at 2 p.m. before the double-elimination conference tournament held next week at the Multiplex at Cramton Bowl.
