MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Faulkner fell 3-2 (23-25, 20-25, 25-22, 25-20, 16-14) to the second-seeded Mobile Rams Friday afternoon in a nail biter. The Lady Eagles will battle Loyola Saturday morning at 10 a.m. for the chance to advance to the championship round against Mobile.
On match point,
Kortney Barnes struck an attack down the line that the Lady Eagles thought deflected off the wall, but was ruled no touch and out, giving Mobile the point and a lifeline it would take to the championship round with a kill and an ace to end the match.
Faulkner led 19-16 in the fourth set before a kill from Sarah Kathryn Guilford started a 9-1 closing run featuring Abigail Andrews's personal 4-0 run with three kills and a solo block.
The Lady Eagles threatened to comeback and sweep in the third after trailing 23-17 sparking a 5-0 run, but the Rams found timely kills to end the set.
Barnes led the squad with 12 kills and 10 blocks for a double-double.
Alysa Vinson and
Hannah Bryan each had nine kills and 15 digs.
Jordan Stewart led the team with 21 digs.
Alexis McInroy picked up 18 digs.
Alyssa Stagner had 40 assists and 13 digs.
