MOBILE, Ala. – Faulkner's offense propped up a
July Sosa gem Thursday as the Eagles opened their SSAC Baseball Championship run with a 12-0 victory over Blue Mountain.
Sosa worked out of trouble in the top of the first inning before Faulkner bats gave him a lift in the home half of the frame.
Isaac Phillips tripled down the right field line to plate
Isaiah Brooks and
Shawn Ross for the 2-0 lead.
Blue Mountain loaded the bases with one out in the top of the third before Sosa induced a grounder and a fly out to left to get out of the inning. The Eagles inflated the lead in the bottom of the third as
John Michael Mathews singled in Ross and
Alex Arauz to make it 4-0.
Faulkner all but put the game out of reach in the fourth as
Jonathan Villa doubled in
Sam Anthony. Arauz drove in Brooks with a grounder before Mathews doubled home Phillips to make it 7-0.
Faulkner moved the game into run rule territory in the fifth with a five-run rally. Villa's sacrifice fly plated
Justice Lucas. Arauz singled home
Justin Lara and Anthony.
Bo Seccombe deposited the only pitch he saw in the game down the left field line to score Arauz and Phillips to set the final margin.
Sosa (7-1) struck out six batters over six shutout innings while allowing one hit and three walks for the win.
Tyler Paulsen worked the seventh inning to finish it off.
