PULASKI, Tenn. - A strong showing in the second half against Tennessee Southern was not enough to overcome the hot start from the FireHawks as the No. 5 team in the country took a 4-0 win Monday night at Grissom Pitch.
After falling behind with four goals spanning 20 minutes, the Lady Eagles buckled in defensively, allowing just one shot on target over the final hour. While the scoreline remained the same as last year's meeting at home, the Lady Eagles showed improvement following the flurry, having allowed 16 less shot attempts and six less on target compared to the 2020 match.
The former Martin Methodist opened the scoring in the ninth minute when Keito Ido scored what proved to be the eventual match-winner. The deficit ballooned out of reach as the FireHawks blazed three goals in six and a half minutes from the 22nd to the 29th minutes, including Ido's second goal in the 24th.
Reagan Embry stopped two shots in her first collegiate start. The contest also marked the first appearances for Alessia Confalonieri and
Maria Wharton.
Camila Parada and
Libby Graham both placed a shot on target.
Faulkner looks for its first win of the season Thursday evening on the road at Point. The previous two matches have each ended 1-0 with the decisive goal coming in the second half with each team taking a victory. Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. central.
