Quick Life goals push home opener out of reach

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – After a close first half, the visiting Running Eagles of Life University claimed two goals in a span of five minutes after halftime to defeat Faulkner 4-1 at Billy D. Hilyer Stadium on Friday night. The loss spoiled the home Eagles' first game back on campus on the new turf, after the scrimmage against Atlanta United FC was called off due to weather.

Life's Wilfried Tchoupa Kamden opened the scoring in the 14th minute, when Bart Kooistra evaded a sliding tackle attempt and perfectly placed a cross to Kamden at the top of the box for the assist. Faulkner had several bites of the apple in the half, attempting six shots out of eight total for the game and six combined shots on goal, but still found itself down 1-0 going into the break. Running Eagle goalkeeper Fabian Pekruhl was to thank for that score, coming up with five saves on the day, and four of them before halftime.

In the 50th minute, however, a foul on Alexsa Dorovic led to a Jamie Lightfoot goal off of the free kick. Just three minutes after the first foul call, a yellow card was issued to Ross Harper. Stan Vandierendonck proceeded to knock in the penalty kick to effectively put the game out of reach for the visitors. Undaunted, Faulkner kept fighting, and Jonathan Doan tallied his first career goal on a beautiful strike with just over ten minutes remaining. However, the tally would not be enough, as Vandierendonck scored once more in the 89th minute, mirroring Doan's shot with a floater from the 25-yard line. All told, Life placed its four goals in the net out of just seven shots on goal.

Faulkner falls to 0-2 before a September 1 home match against Thomas University.
