HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Faulkner (2-7-1, 0-1 SSAC) put more, or as many, shots on target against William Carey (9-0, 1-0 SSAC) than six of the previous eight opponents the top-ranked team has faced this year--including four teams featured in the polls-- but the Lady Crusader attack overwhelmed the Lady Eagles 9-0 Thursday night at Crusader Field in the first match of SSAC play.
Mariangela Jimenez scored four on the night, including a 13 minute hat trick to open the scoring starting in the 22nd minute for the national runners-up. Five other Lady Crusaders found their names on the scoresheet including reigning National Player of the Year Ana Paula Santos who ended with a goal and two assists.Â
Eighteen different Lady Eagles saw action as just three played all 90, including keeper
Keila Cardeiro Carmona who stopped ten shots in the loss. The Spaniard collected 29 saves in 180 minutes against the top two teams in the country.Â
Faulkner travels to Mobile Saturday to face the Rams. Kickoff is set for 1:30 p.m.
