Eagles to watch scoreboards for postseason fate after draw

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - A tough scoreless draw with Brewton-Parker Saturday set Faulkner's postseason chances on the edge at Billy D. Hilyer Stadium.

The game largely lacked offensive excitement with limited shots on goal for each team with just 13 combined shots on goal and none scored, but the flashpoint of the game came in the 78th minute when a scuffle broke out. After hearing testimonies from the visiting players and conferring with his assistant, the center referee showed a yellow to the Barons and a red to the Eagles, forcing Faulkner to play a man down for the final 12 minutes.

While both teams scrapped for the winner, Brewton-Parker created the best chances with three great looks against the man-down defense but Michalis Jackson answered the call and stopped the two that went on frame.

Faulkner wraps its regular season up and is currently tied with Blue Mountain for the fifth and sixth spots in the SSAC standings with the Eagles occupying the sixth and final spot for the postseason due to goal difference. Blue Mountain will take on Mobile Thursday. Sitting on the outside with four points and a chance to play their way in are the Barons and Middle Georgia State Knights. The Barons will face Life, Dalton State before facing the Knights to wrap up the season. Middle Georgia will take on Dalton State too. If the two teams fail to pick up points in their matchups before facing each other, the Eagles will be secure in the playoffs and will travel to the third seed.
