Lady Eagles top Bethel for non-conference win

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Faulkner rode out a slow start offensively to power past Bethel 68-51 Sunday for its eighth win of the season and first win over the Wildcats since 2018.
Kyla Taylor's shot with 1:17 to go in the first put Bethel up 12-11. Morgan Holland answered with a pair of free throws to put Faulkner back on top before Madison Hart countered with two of her own to send Bethel to the second quarter with a 14-13 lead. That advantage lasted just 15 seconds as Nequoia Adams opened the second with a shot to put the Lady Eagles on top. A free throw from Adams moved the lead to two before Lanie Henderson ripped through a three with 8:39 left in the frame to push the advantage to 19-14. Faulkner went on to extend the run to 16-3 to stretch the lead to 12.

Bethel got back in it in the second half, cutting the deficit to six points with 4:13 left in the third quarter. Faulkner ended the quarter on a 7-0 run to extend the lead to 51-38 by the end of the third quarter. The Wildcats never got closer than 11 in the fourth quarter as Faulkner closed out the win.

The Lady Eagles shot 31.9 percent from the floor and 22.6 percent from three but held Bethel to 31 percent from the field and 18.2 percent from three. Faulkner won the rebound battle 49-39, including 14-5 on the offensive glass.

Adams topped all scorers with 18 points while Neely Johns had 14 and Henderson had 11. Angela Grant pulled 10 rebounds while Holland had nine points, nine rebounds and four assists.

Faulkner (8-1, 1-0 SSAC) returns to action Tuesday when it travels to Blue Mountain Christian College for a 5:30 p.m. tip.
