Box Score MOUNT VERNON, Ga. – Faulkner wrapped its regular season road schedule Saturday with a 74-64 win at SSAC foe Brewton-Parker. Despite the double-digit margin of victory, the Eagles were scarcely able to rest easily Saturday as the Barons managed to stay within striking distance for most of the afternoon.
Faulkner did not take its first lead until the 14:46 mark of the opening half when
Jalon Perry knocked down a three to put the Eagles up 11-9. The shot sparked a 9-2 run for Faulkner. Brewton equalized the game again with 8:08 to play in the half and traded buckets with Faulkner until Perry knocked down a jumper with 7:02 to go in the frame.
C.J. Hines followed with a jumper of his own to move it to a two-possession game. The feat proved short-lived as Brewton tied the contest again by the 5:50 mark. After Faulkner opened up a narrow lead, Brewton pulled the game even at 29 with 2:21 left in the frame. Perry's jumper with five seconds left in the half sent Faulkner to the locker room with a 34-31 advantage.
Bryce Wilson evened things out once more in the opening minute of the second half when he made a three.
The squads traded makes for the ensuing sequences until Perry hit a three with 17 minutes to play.
Isaiah Brooks threw down a dunk with 15:19 left and Faulkner held a five-point lead. Brooks later hit a jumper ahead of a
J.C. Norris three. Brooks then cashed in a free throw to lead the Eagles up 49-40 with 13:23 left. A Brooks jumper 21 second later pushed the run to 13-2 and gave Faulkner 11-point lead.
Undaunted, the Barons worked the deficit back to four with 8:53 to go. Brooks and
Trace Hill then combined on an 8-0 run to push the lead back to double figures. Brewton could get no closer than eight points behind the remainder of the game.
Brooks, Perry and Hill each scored in doubled figures in the second half to help put Faulkner over the top. Perry finished with 24 points. Brooks had a career high 20 points and six rebounds. Hill finished with 12 points and eight rebounds.
Faulkner shot 48 percent from the floor but allowed the Barons to make 49 percent from the field. The Eagles forced 14 turnovers and made 13 of 17 free throw attempts.
Faulkner (21-5, 13-3 SSAC) hosts Brewton-Parker Tuesday at 5 p.m.
