MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Lady Eagles led for 53 minutes against NCAA D1 Alabama State Sunday afternoon, but the Hornets nicked two goals in 13 minutes to hand Faulkner a 2-1 loss.
Elodie Metho dribbled into space in the 2nd minute on the left side and crossed to
Annabel Cuthbert who buried the chance to take a 1-0 lead for her sixth goal of the season and putting Metho on the scoresheet for the first time in her Faulkner career with the assist in her second match.
Reagan Embry faced both shots on target she faced in the first half as the Lady Eagles carried the lead into the break where Keila Cardiero Carmona took over in the second half. The Spaniard stopped a couple big chances for the Hornets before the hosts broke through in the 56th minute on a follow-up scramble in the box. In the 69th minute, ASU found the winner.
Faulkner threatened an equalizer highlighted by several good shots that narrowly missed and a corner taken on frame from
Alessia Confalonieri that was pushed off the goal line high by the keeper in the 86th.
The Lady Eagles have held their opponents to just nine shots on goal in the last four matches.
Attention turns to Senior Day as Tougaloo comes into town for the first meeting. The Bulldogs will be playing their first counting contest as a program since the 1980s Saturday at 5 p.m.
