TUPELO, Miss. - Faulkner kept its fourth clean sheet of the season Tuesday in Tupelo, Miss. in a 4-0 defeat of Williams Baptist in a neutral site contest to improve to 5-2-1 on the season.
Laia Gonzalez opened the scoring in the fourth minute for her third goal of the season with an assist from
Elodie Metho. The Lady Eagles doubled the advantage before the half, cashing in on an own goal in the 43rd minute.
Gonzalez completed her brace in the 70th minute with help from
Ainsley Lockwood. Just five minutes later
Gianna Mendez linked up with
Alessia Confalonieri as the Italian scored her sixth goal of the year.
Faulkner controlled the match outshooting the opposing Eagles 23-3 placing 15 shots on target while allowing them to just two.
Keila Cardiero earned her first clean sheet of her career saving both shots faced in goal.
Through the first eight games of this season, Faulkner has scored six more goals than it did through the whole seasons of 2020 and 2021.
The Lady Eagles enter SSAC play next week and currently have the best win-loss record in the league ahead of Mobile's 4-2-2 and William Carey's 4-2-1. Faulkner takes on Blue Mountain Thursday Sept. 29 in another road contest in game seven of eight straight away from Billy D. Hilyer Stadium.
