BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. -
Elodie Metho's first two goals of her Faulkner career and the second straight clean sheet led the Lady Eagles (6-2-1, 1-0 SSAC) to a 2-0 victory to open SSAC play on the road against Blue Mountain (3-5-1, 0-2 SSAC) Thursday afternoon.
Metho beat the buzzer in the first half, dribbling around two defenders before ripping a top shelf shot past the keeper with just two seconds left before the interval. The Cameroonian international made it two in the 68th when
Alessia Confalonieri floated the ball to her atop the box where Metho collected and fired home the effort, becoming the seventh Lady Eagle with multiple goals on the season.Â
The defense stood tall once again, holding its fourth clean sheet in five matches highlighted by
Keila Cardeiro Carmona's kick save in the seventh minute thwarting a one-on-one chance for the hosts.Â
Faulkner outshot the Lady Toppers 12-6 and put eight of their attempts on target while holding BMC to just two. Faulkner has held its opponents to just nine shots on target in the last five matches.Â
The Lady Eagles picked up their sixth win of the year in the third quickest fashion in program history with the win in its ninth match of the season Thursday only behind 2014 when the team accomplished it in eight matches and 2010 with seven.Â
Faulkner travels to Talladega (0-2) Saturday to take on the Tornadoes in their first league game at 1:30 p.m.
