Lady Eagles trounce Florida Memorial

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Faulkner put together a strong second half Friday to pull away from Florida Memorial and pick up a 77-59 victory in the SSAC-Sun Challenge. The Lady Eagles trailed 21-20 after one quarter of play but surged late in the second on a three-pointer from Morgan Holland and another from Neely Johns to carry a 42-36 lead into the locker room. Faulkner ended the third quarter on a 10-2 to move the lead to 63-49 and ran the lead as high as 19 in the fourth.

Faulkner won the rebounding battle 44-37 while shooting 40.3 percent from the floor and 25 percent from three. The Lady Eagles also made 23 of 29 free throws after shooting less than 60 percent in each of its previous games against NAIA competition. FMU hit 33.8 percent of its shots from the field and made 29 percent from three.

Holland paced Faulkner with 26 points to go along with seven rebounds. Ruthie Smith added 16 points and eight boards. Johns had 11 points.

Faulkner (2-2) faces Midway Friday, Nov. 10 at 5 p.m. before taking on Bethel (Tenn.) at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 11.
