Faulkner flies by Toppers for SSAC victory

BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss. – Faulkner picked up Saturday where it left off three weeks earlier, dropping Blue Mountain Christian 69-56 to extend its win streak to four games. The Lady Eagles were up by as many as 20 points Saturday afternoon and never trailed in the contest.

Faulkner made 32.3 percent of its shots from the floor and 37.5 percent from beyond the arc while knocking down 18 of 25 free throw attempts in a balanced offensive effort that saw 10 different players score. Faulkner took the rebound margin 45-27 including a 16-2 advantage on the offensive glass.

Morgan Holland led the way with 15 points and seven rebounds. Nequoia Adams finished with 12 points, seven rebounds and three steals. Dee Guinn contributed 12 points and four rebounds off the bench.

The Lady Eagles ended the second quarter on a 9-2 run to carry a 33-24 lead into the locker room. The advantage shrunk to one by the 5:21 mark of the third quarter before Faulkner put together a 10-1 run to go up by 10 heading into the fourth. The Lady Eagles opened the fourth with made threes from Guinn, Ruthie Smith and Olivia Chadwell to run the lead up to 19 and effectively put the game away.

"I really liked our aggressiveness on both ends today. I felt we were attacking the paint and getting to the line on offense. It was also allowing us to shoot open threes. We really did a good job on the offensive glass and that provided the competitive gap for us. Defensively we were very well prepared and solid when we stayed on plan," Faulkner Head Coach Reed Sutton said. "I thought Dee, Evaiah (Burrows), and Olivia provided some very solid contributions off the bench. We will need to finish better in the paint and protect the ball better on Tuesday to keep our streak alive."

The victory makes Faulkner unbeaten for the month of December and sends the squad into January at 7-8 overall and 3-3 in SSAC play. Faulkner opens 2024 Tuesday at 3 p.m. when it hosts Tennessee Southern.
