MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Faulkner softball took its second doubleheader sweep in as many days Wednesday as it picked up a pair of non-conference wins over UT Southern.
FAULKNER 7, UT SOUTHERN 4
The Lady Eagles opened the day with a 7-4 victory that saw them score four runs in the fifth inning to anchor the effort.
Eavie Polk helped steal the first run of the game when she swiped second base in the second inning and forced a throwing error that allowed
AnnaMarie Stooksbury to score from third to put the team up 1-0.
Ivey Hill added the lead in the third when stroked a two-run triple, her third such hit in as many days, plating
Erika Mitchell and
Chloe Davidson.
Mitchell ripped a three-run homer in the fifth to move the lead to 6-1. Davidson added a run later in the fifth when she singled to plate
Haley Ingram.
UT Southern plated three more runs in the sixth to get back in to the game and left the bases loaded in the seventh with an opportunity to tie it or take the lead.
Katelynn Inness (7-6) struck out seven over seven innings of work, allowing eight hits and two walks in the complete game effort.
FAULKNER 6, UT SOUTHERN 1
Game two saw the Firehawks score the opening run, plating one in the first inning without the benefit of a hit. A wild pitch in the home half equalized the score column when Davidson made her way home on the errant toss. Hill later stroked a sacrifice fly to score
Abby Terrell.
Mandi Hart added to the advantage in the when she singled home Mitchell to make it 3-1.

Kaileigh Harrison to move it to 4-1 in the second inning. Mitchell singled in Davidson later in the frame to move the lead to 5-1. Terrell scored the final run of the game on a wild pitch in the sixth.
Julianna Thames (4-4) got the win, working four innings while allowing three hits and one unearned run. Hill got her first save of the season with a three-inning effort that featured no hits.
Faulkner (17-14, 5-9 SSAC) will pick up a pair of wins Friday as Talladega will forfeit the doubleheader previously scheduled for that day. The Lady Eagles return to action Tuesday when they host Middle Georgia State.
