COLUMBIA, Ky. – Faulkner matched Lindsey Wilson in the scoring column in three out of four quarters Saturday but saw its effort undone by a disastrous second period. The 28-0 margin in the second frame allowed the Blue Raiders to notch the 49-21 victory, dropping Faulkner to 1-3 overall and 0-1 in Mid-South Conference play.
After Jbias Dawson got Lindsey Wilson on the board in the opening quarter, the Eagles answered quickly when
Ben Anderson hit
Kedric Lackey for a 39-yard touchdown pass. The game sat at 7-7 until early in the second quarter when a series of unfortunate events plagued Faulkner in every phase of the game.
Logan Collier caught a 28-yard scoring pass from Ethan Cash with 13:12 to go until half. Less than two minutes later, the Eagles saw Collier return a punt 73 yards for a touchdown and a 21-7 lead. Just 80 seconds later, Cameron Rankins scooped a fumble and scored from 41 yards out for the 28-7 advantage. LW did all but ice it with 4:01 left in the second when Dawson scored from a yard out for the 35-7 halftime lead.
Dawson picked up in the third quarter where he left off, scoring from three yards out for the 42-7 lead with 6:44 remaining in the frame. Quantae Hicks later returned a punt 54 yards to round out Lindsey Wilson's scoring.
Avian Morgan returned an interception 15 yards for a touchdown for Faulkner and Anderson hit
Jarvis Hardwick on a 21-yard scoring pass.
Faulkner finished with 258 yards total offense as compared to 285 for the Blue Raiders. Anderson passed for 173 yards and rushed for 41, leading the Eagles in both categories. Lackey hauled in five passes for 93 yards.
Emmanuel Olaitan topped the defense with seven tackles, two TFLs and a sack.
Elisha McNeil forced a fumble. Morgan had two interceptions while
Jailen Clemons and
Ty Simpson each had one.
Faulkner (1-3, 0-1 MSC) returns home next week when it hosts Campbellsville Saturday at 6 p.m.
