MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Faulkner could get very little going offensively Saturday night on the way to a 36-5 loss to Campbellsville. The Eagles found themselves down 13-0 before getting on the board with a 28-yard
Caden Davis field goal with 1:59 remaining in the second quarter.
The only other Faulkner points came in the latter moments of the second quarter when
Marvin Payton blocked an extra-point attempt and
Elliott Shorter scooped it for 2-point return to cut the score to 19-5.
The Tigers moved the ball with efficiency for much of the night as Jagger Gillis completed 62 percent of his passes for 248 yards and four touchdowns. He also ran the ball five times for 44 yards. Luke Sheperson hauled in four passes for 100 yards and two touchdowns to lead the receivers.
Faulkner finished with 132 yards of total offense, averaging 2.13 per play. Campbellsville countered with 348 yards of its own. Penalties marred the game with chippiness setting in early and reigning late. The teams combined for 21 penalties, not including the offsetting infractions that did not count in the final stats.
Faulkner (1-4, 0-2 MSC) begins a stretch next week during which it will play three consecutive ranked opponents when it travels to No. 19 University of the Cumberlands.
