MOUNT VERNON, Ga. – Brewton-Parker snapped a 13-game losing streak against Faulkner Tuesday night with a 78-75 overtime victory. The setback marks the Eagles' first loss in the series since Feb. 24, 2018. The Eagles erased a four-point deficit in the final 1:17 of play. A bucket from
Jayden Cooper narrowed it to 75-73 before a tip-in by Victor Muñoz pulled the score even at 75 with 3.4 seconds to play.
Brewton-Parker called timeout following the make, setting up an inbound play that needed to cover the length of the court. Lance Smith inbounded the ball from under his own basket, passing it off to Justin Boston. Smith quickly took the pass back from Boston, took two dribbles toward the left wing and launched a three that ripped through to put the Barons up 78-75 and seal the win.
Faulkner never led by more than seven in the game and did not lead after the 7:14 mark of the first half. The Eagles controlled points in the paint 34-24 and took second chance points 14-8 while narrowly taking the rebound battle 39-38.
Still, Faulkner found itself struggling to limit the Baron offense. BPC shot 41.3 percent from the floor and 41.4 percent beyond the arc while making 12 threes in the game.
Cooper paced Faulkner with 21 points and 10 rebounds. Muñoz had 20 points, 11 rebounds, three blocks, and three steals.
Jonathan Garcia added 15 points while
Sean McCurdy had 14 point and 10 boards.
Faulkner (9-10, 4-7 SSAC) four of its last five outings and sits ninth in the SSAC standings. The Eagles play again Saturday at 2 p.m. when they host Middle Georgia State.
