Faulkner announces 2024 Hall of Fame class

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Faulkner Athletics Hall of Fame Banquet set for Friday, Oct. 18 at 6 p.m. will celebrate the careers and contributions of four individuals who have bettered the state of the university. Three off the four individuals will be present for the banquet and induction ceremony while the fourth will be honored despite not being able to attend.

BILLY D. HILYER

The seventh president of Faulkner University, Hilyer spent 28 years atop the institution and proved an extraordinary supporter of collegiate athletics. During Hilyer's tenure, Faulkner added eight athletic programs which helped dramatically increase enrollment and expand the university's scope of influence. Hilyer was at the helm for every national championship won by Faulkner athletic programs to-date. Ever the Eagle, he continues to be a frequenter of Faulkner athletic events and a regular watcher of the Faulkner Sports Network.

LANAE (HOLAWAY) KANEY

A native of Decatur, Ala., Lanae Holaway starred for the Faulkner softball team as an all-conference catcher. A four-time all-academic selection, Holaway played in 205 games during her collegiate career, logging 653 at-bats and producing a .295 batting average. She finished her career with 187 hits and 136 runs scored to go along with 64 RBIs.

NIKKI (JAGT) LANGENDOEN

The first soccer player to reach the Faulkner Athletics Hall of Fame, Nikki Jagt put together one of the most prolific careers in NAIA history. From 2006 through 2009, the native of Burlington, Ontario, Canada authored the four best goal-scoring campaigns in the history of Faulkner women's soccer. Jagt, who will be unable to attend the ceremony, finished the 2006 season with 39 goals before hammering home 31 more in 2007. She notched 20 goals in 2008 and 21 in 2009, wrapping her career with 111 goals, a number that outpaces the second best goal-scoring Faulkner career by 77. Additionally, she put together 23 assists over her career, a mark that still stands as the program record.

JOHN POITEVINT

After graduating from Alabama Christian College in 1974, John Poitevint would soon play a pivotal role for his alma mater's baseball program. Having been a pitcher for the Eagles during time in school, Poitevint returned in 1975 to help resurrect a baseball program that had been shuttered. Without the benefit of scholarships, facilities, uniforms, or time to recruit, Poitevint helmed a team assembled from students already enrolled in the school. After a season of battling uphill, Poitevint's squad final prevailed in the final game of the 1976 campaign when it walked off Wallace-Selma for the first win of the reformed program.
