MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Faulkner battled back, but the comeback effort fell just short against Thomas Saturday afternoon at Billy D. HIlyer Stadium in a 3-2 SSAC loss.
Thomas struck just 40 seconds into the game when Kaitlyn Herb scored from Peal Mortimer's cross before Faulkner had even acquired possession of the ball. Herb doubled the lead in the 29th when Sasha Manders connected with her to take a 2-0 lead into the half.
As the second half wore on, the match needed a goal and it received a couple of quick tallies as
Ainsley Lockwood was brought down in the box for a penalty in the 78th minute. The 5th year senior stepped up and buried it to bring it back to a one-score game. However just 53 seconds later, a foul was called on Faulkner and Thomas took advantage of the free kick with Ali Baca's perfectly placed free kick for Jarica Lawrence to head it into the goal to reclaim a two goal away advantage.
Faulkner bounced right back though as
Alessia Confalonieri was brought down in the box for another penalty attempt that Lockwood again made no mistake about. It was her third penalty conversion on the weekend and Faulkner scored all four penalties awarded them this weekend with
Libby Graham scoring the other on Thursday.
Faulkner put 12 shots on frame but could not find enough to take a point or more from the match.
The Lady Eagles take on Mobile Thursday night at 5 p.m. in the penultimate home match.
