Thomasville, Ga. - The Faulkner Eagles pick up a big-time road win in Thomasville, Ga. The Eagles get payback on the road after losing to the Night Hawks earlier this season at home 98-92. Faulkner pulls out the tough victory beating Thomas 87-76.
The first half of action saw several lead changes as each team traded baskets back and forth. Faulkner was able to pull ahead by one off a layup from Victor Muñoz with 10:06 left in the first half. From there the Eagles held the lead for the remainder of the half. The lead climbed to eight as the Eagles went into the locker room at halftime, but the Night Hawks never made it easy.
In the second half, the Eagles and the Night Hawks continued to battle as Faulkner pushed the lead Thomas would inch closer and closer. With 12:26 left in the game Thomas took the lead off the layup by Jailin Lee, but Faulkner came back with an answer to regain the lead from a three-pointer by
R.J. Comer putting the Eagles up 63-61.
As the game dwindled the Eagles pushed on the gas, and the Night Hawks were unable to muster up the comeback victory. The Eagles were able to put away the game off late baskets from
Jayden Cooper.
Faulkner had an amazing shooting night, as the Eagles shot 56.5 percent from the field and shot for 10-22 behind the three-point line. The Eagles also had 35 rebounds and 29 points off turnovers.
Faulkner had four starters with double digits in scoring. Victor Muñoz led the way with 26 points and 10 rebounds earning himself a double-double.
Jonathan Garcia had 20 points with 15 of them coming from behind the three-point line.
Jayden Cooper added 17 points and nine rebounds.
Sean McCurdy finished the night with a double-double himself. He had 10 points and 10 rebounds.
With this win, The Eagles find themselves half a game ahead of Thomas in the conference. This puts the Eagles in seventh place in the Southern States Athletic Conference.
Faulkner (13-14, 8-11 SSAC) returns to action on Saturday as they travel to the Point Skyhawks for the final game of the regular season. The tip-off is set for 2:00 pm.
