Montgomery, Ala. - The Faulkner Lady Eagles took on the Brenau Golden Tigers Wednesday afternoon at home for a double header series. The Lady Eagles had played the Golden Tigers earlier in the season on opening day at Brenau. Faulkner split the series those two games. The Lady Eagles split today's series as well to split for the season series between the two teams. The final score today was seven to four in game one with Faulkner for the win. In game two Brenau picked up the split with the score three to one.
Faulkner 7, Brenau 4
In Game one the Lady Eagles pitching behind Katelynn Innes was a major factor in the win. Inness had nine strikeouts through seven innings. She also only allowed nine hits with four runs. Inness picked up the win in the contest.
The Lady Eagles started the game off down one going into the bottom of the first inning after Brenau scored off an RBI single.
Chloe Davidson singled to the pitcher.
Anna Catherine Segrest then singled to third base.
Anna Purvis reached first off, the throwing error. Davidson scored off the sacrifice bunt from Purvis. With

Ivey Hill doubled to right field for 2 run RBI pushing all base runners in to take the lead three to one.
In the second inning Abby Terrel started off by doubling to left field. With
Eavie Polk up to the dish she lays down the sacrifice bunt for an RBI and allowed Terrell to score. The Lady Eagles pushed the lead to four to one.
Through three innings the score remained the same. The Lady Eagles headed to the bottom of the fourth with
Erika Mitchell leading off. She doubled to left field.
Ivey Hill then took the dish and singled through the right side for an RBI. Mitchell scored from second. Pushing the lead to five to one. The Golden Tigers were then able to retire the inning three plays in a row.
In the fifth inning the Lady Eagles continued to pour on the lead. They scored two more runs off two sacrifice RBIs from
Anna Purvis and
Gracie Pittman allowing
Chloe Davidson and
Anna Catherine Segrest to score on back-to-back plays. The lead was now seven to one going into the sixth inning.
The sixth inning of the game saw no runs scored. With the seventh inning and the game possibly coming to a close the Golden Tigers were able to close the lead scoring three runs. The Lady Eagles saw themselves up seven to four with one out. With two outs left to seal the victory the Lady Eagles force a fly out to center field for out number two.
Katelynn Inness then struck out the final batter for out number three and the game one victory.
Brenau 3, Faulkner 1
In game two it was not only a battle between the two teams, but a battle against the weather. The storms rolled in for the beginning of the game, and rained for the entire game. The Lady Eagles dropped the split in the series after a rain delay in the bottom of the seventh inning with one out left. Faulkner lost three to one but despite the weather the Lady Eagles fought the whole time.
In the first inning the Golden Tigers put up two runs from RBIs by Whitney Hulsey and Peyton Hawkins. They allowed Ava Moon and Whitney Hulsey to score for the Golden Tigers.
In the bottom of the first the Lady Eagles pulled back within one after
Sarah Williams hit the sacrifice fly out to right field.
Chloe Davidson scored from third giving Williams an RBI. The Golden Tigers then retired the inning on the next play.
Through six inning the score between the Lady Eagles and Golden Tigers remained two to one. The rain continued to pour and kept the game very close. Both teams were finding a hard time to get their bats going late in the game. Brenau then scored in the top of the seventh inning. The lead now three to one the Lady Eagles retire the top of the inning and headed to the bottom of the inning looking to win the game and the series.
With the Lady Eagles down to one out left and one runner on base, the umpires decided to call for a delay. Brenau was having a hard time with the softballs because of how heavy the rain was pouring. After the fifteen-minute delay the Lady Eagles sent
Anna Purvis to the box. She was then walked and pushed Segrest to second base.
Erika Mitchell came to bat and was walked as well. The bases were loaded and the winning runner on first base and
Sarah Williams up to the dish. She flew out to the infield, and the Golden Tigers left the bases stranded and picked up the series split and season series split.
The Lady Eagles will be back in action on Friday March 1
st and March 2
nd as they travel to the Gulf Coast Invitational. They will play four games over two days as they take on Bethel University (Tenn.) University and Columbia College (Mo.) on day one and Oklahoma Wesleyan University and Texas A&M-Texarkana on day two. First pitch for game one is set for 1:30 pm.
