Lady Eagles fall short in SSAC Softball Championship

Decatur, Ala. - Faulkner started day two of the SSAC Softball Championship against William Carey. The Lady Eagles fell to the Lady Crusaders 8-0 after five innings. The Lady Eagles headed to an elimination game to play Stillman. The Tigers moved on in the tournament after beating Faulkner 14-5 after a two-and-a-half-hour rain delay.

In game one of day two of the SSAC Softball Championship, William Carey started the game strong with two quick runs. The Lady Crusaders continued to push their lead through the remainder of the game as they scored three in the third and three more in the fourth to put them up 8-0. Faulkner fell short of scoring any runs and fell to the Lady Crusaders after five innings with a final score of 8-0. 

Stillman 14, Faulkner 5

The Lady Eagles took on Stillman for an elimination game after their loss to William Carey. Faulkner had already beaten Stillman 3-2 in the opening game of the SSAC Softball Championship. 

The Tigers started strong with a four-run lead at the top of the third inning, but unfortunately, weather would bring the game to a pause until 6:30 p.m. When the game finally resumed, the Tigers found themselves up 12-0 after three and a half innings. The Lady Eagles headed to the bottom of the fourth trying to avoid the possibility of a run rule. 

Faulkner scored two necessary runs after Ivey Hill hit a two-run RBI home run to bring herself and Anna Purvis across the plate. In the bottom of the fifth, the Lady Eagles tacked on three more runs to bring the game to within seven. Anna Purvis doubled to center for a two-run RBI to bring Brianna Boyd and Chloe Davidson home. Purvis then scored on an error by the center fielder. The Lady Eagles avoided the early finish and pushed the game to the sixth inning. 

The sixth inning saw zero runs scored. In the top of the seventh, the Tigers pushed the score to 14-5. The Lady Eagles kept the damage from ensuing and headed to the bottom of the frame to try for extra innings. Unfortunately, Faulkner came up short after three straight outs ended the game with the final score of 14-5. 

The Lady Eagles had 10 hits in the game. Anna Purvis had three hits, while Chloe Davidson, Anna Catherine Segrest, AnnaMarie Stooksbury, Erika Mitchell, Sarah Williams, Ivey Hill and Brianna Boyd had one hit each. 

Faulkner (26-20, SSAC 16-10) ends their journey in the SSAC Softball Championship and awaits to see if they make the NAIA Softball World Series.
