Huntsville, Ala. - The Eagles and Lady Eagles competed in the Jacksonville State Southern Showcase Friday morning at John Hunt Cross Country Running Park. The men competed in their first 8k of the year, and the women competed in the 5k. The event featured 47 men's teams and 49 women's teams across the NCAA, NAIA and NJCAA.
For the men, the Eagles finished 44 out of 47. The fastest time for the men came from Freshman Brodie Moore. His time was 28:53.40, giving him the school record for an 8k race. He breaks the record by five minutes and 49 seconds. This is only Moore's second race for Faulkner, and he has already broken school records in back-to-back races. He finished 347 out of 477. Other finishers for the Eagles were Carson Roberson (407) Creed Spivey (408) Ethan Thomas (428) Nathan Schumacher (447) Landon Hunton (450) and Aaron Treubig (452). Creed Spivey and Aaron Treubig broke their personal records in the race on Friday.
The women finished 40 out of 49. The fastest time for the women came from Chloe Helms, another freshman in the Cross Country program. Her time was 19:48.12. She was just a few seconds behind beating her own personal best and the school record as she beat it a couple of weeks back in her debut for the Lady Eagles. Helms finished 243 out of 464. Other finishers for the Lady Eagles were Avery Rogers (305) Mary Alice Murner (392) Martha Mendez (411) Claudia Velazquez (414) Saryah Martin (426) and Courtney Hill (433). Avery Rogers, Martha Mendez and Claudia Velazquez all set personal records on Friday.
"Coach Britton and I were thrilled with our performance today. We set a Men's 8k School Record for the team average. We had 6 athletes achieve Personal Records. Brodie set a Men's 8k School Record despite being under the weather this week. We are excited about the growth trends we are observing in our athletes," said Coach Reed Sutton.
The Faulkner Cross Country teams return to action on Sept. 27 here in Montgomery at the Hawk Invitational. Huntingdon College hosts the meet and features another 8k for the men and the first 6k of the year for the women.
