MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Lady Eagles opened SSAC play with a dominant 2-0 win over Brewton-Parker Thursday night over Brewton-Parker at Billy D. Hilyer Stadium with two first half goals.
In the 22nd meeting between the two teams, the Lady Eagles (3-3-1, 1-0 SSAC) commanded the match from the jump, outshooting the Lady Barons 5-1 in the first 13 minutes and it eventually paid off. In the 18th minute, Â
Ashlei Bryant created space on the right wing with a crafty dribble and crossed to
Alessia Confalonieri who opened the scoring with a header that looped over the reigning SSAC Defender of the Week, BPC goalkeeper Angel Camacho. It was the Italian's third goal of the season and Bryant's first assist of the campaign.
With the 15th shot of the first half,
Zykira Marbury got on the scoresheet for the first time in her varsity career, sliding home the second goal of the night off a cross from
Taylor Daniel as
Vanessa Mateko made a smart hold up run to help Marbury create space and win the ball.Â
Faulkner got 10 more shots off in the second half, but could not add to the scoreline, but battened down defensively allowing just three shots on goal in the match with only one really testing Keila Cardeiro who had to range over and catch a 64th minute shot.Â
The Lady Eagles outshot the Lady Barons 25-5 in the evening.Â
Faulkner turns its attention to Middle Georgia State Saturday evening for a 5 p.m. kickoff continuing the SSAC action.
