DALTON, Ga. - The Lady Eagles (3-4-2, 1-1-1 SSAC) picked up a hard fought point on the road at Dalton State (3-0-3, 1-0-2 SSAC) with a 0-0 draw Wednesday afternoon at Dalton Stadium amidst scrappy defense and some show stopping stops from Keila Cardeiro.
The match stayed consistent with the themes of the history between these two sides. All five matches played in Dalton have ended regulation with a scoreless draw. Faulkner is 2-0-3 now against the Roadrunners on the road, having scored golden goals in 2016 and "2020" to take 1-0 wins. Six of the 10 matches have been either draws or one-goal final scores.Â
Faulkner thwarted a couple of good chances with stellar goalkeeping including a one-on-one stop from Cardeiro in the 15th minute, a reaction save off a set piece in the final moments, and a handful of sweeping stops preventing shots. She saved five shots to improve her save percentage this season to 77.1.Â
The first half saw just eight total shots with the Lady Eagles earning the slight edge 5-3. In the second half, Faulkner struggled to get the offensive ball rolling getting just one shot off but handled the Dalton State pressure well as the hosts shot 11 times seeking a winner.Â
The defensive effort from the Lady Eagles produced the fourth clean sheet of the season and the second on the road.Â
The Lady Eagles move to 1-1-1 in SSAC play and are currently tied for fourth in the SSAC and will face one of the biggest tests of the season Saturday against No. 6 Life on the road. The Running Eagles currently top the league standings alongside Middle Georgia with six points each.
