MARIETTA, Ga. - Faulkner led twice but could not hold on against the high-powered offense of the No. 6 Life Running Eagles Saturday afternoon at Lupo Family Field in a 5-2 loss.
Kailee Cox opened the scoring when she pressed the goalkeeper and the clearance attempt Scott Sterling'd off her head and into the back of the net for her first varsity tally in the 14th minute.
Six minutes later, Life drew back level when Lilja Bjorg Olafsdottir found Faith Martin exactly 19 minutes after the start of the match. The tie was short lived as
Alessia Confalonieri sent a long-range strike from 35 yards out and hit it over the keeper in the 26th minute.
Right before half Phoenix Parks scratched even again as the Running Eagles found a 40th minute goal.
Unfortunately for the Lady Eagles, the second half saw the No. 6 team in the country prove their mettle, outshooting Faulkner 13-1 and scoring three more with Sacha Millward and Martin making it a 4-2 game 10 minutes into the second half before adding one more from Nellie Pederson in the 74th.
Faulkner scored on half of its shots in the afternoon.
The Lady Eagles continue the road trip at No. 5 UT Southern Saturday to take on the Firehawks at 2:30 p.m. after the scheduled matchup with Blue Mountain resulted in a forfeit from the Toppers.
