Montgomery, Ala. - The Lady Eagles hosted NCCAA opposition Pensacola Christian on Tuesday afternoon for their last non-conference game. Faulkner jumped out to an early lead and kept the foot on the pedal to pick up the win over the Pensacola Lady Eagles 99-65. With the win, the Lady Eagles tied the program's most points scored in a game by a team.
The Lady Eagles started the game with a three from Nequoia Adams. The two teams traded baskets until the Lady Eagles reached a 17-point lead at the end of the first quarter. Faulkner led 34-17.
With the second quarter underway, Faulkner continued to hold on to their lead as they shot 43.8 from the floor and held on to a commanding lead despite a Pensacola flurry of buckets midway through the quarter. Faulkner headed to the break up 54-19.
In the third quarter, the Lady Eagles continued to push their lead bucket by bucket. At the 2:49 mark, Faulkner reached a 26-point lead after a three-pointer from Ruthie Smith. Pensacola brought it back within 24 on the next possession with a pair of free throws. The Lady Eagles headed to the fourth quarter up 72-48.
The Lady Eagles battled the first few minutes of the fourth quarter as Pensacola scored several quick buckets but Faulkner kept their composure and continued to hit the accelerator and push their lead. Faulkner finished the quarter strong and held on to the lead. The final score stood at 99-64 giving the Lady Eagles the tie for fourth most points scored in a game by any team. They also placed third all-time in threes made in a game with 16.
Four different Lady Eagles scored in double figures in the game. Ruthie Smith led the way with 29 points. She also had 12 rebounds giving her another double-double. Smith's 29 points give her a new career high in scoring. Keyarra Scottland poured in 17 points of her own. Ashlyn Plott and Grace Anne Rose contributed 14 and 11 off the bench.
The Lady Eagles shot 48.6 percent from the floor and 51.6 percent from behind the arc. They also had 41 points off the bench. Faulkner put up 38 points inside the paint and out-rebounded Pensacola 57 to 30.
The Lady Eagles (6-8, SSAC 0-4) return to action on Saturday at noon when they host William Carey to continue SSAC play.
