COLUMBIA, Ky. - Faulkner (4-4, 1-3 MSC) ran into a stiff challenge in the No. 10 Blue Raiders of Lindsey Wilson at Parnell Family Stadium on Saturday afternoon, who took the lead in the first quarter on a punt return TD and never trailed.
The Faulkner defense forced the Blue Raiders into three-and-outs on their first two drives. The Blue Raiders, for their part, sacked Duece Marshall for a loss of 11 to start the Eagles' next drive to force one of their own. Max Gainey outran the Faulkner special teams off Braxton Berrey's punt 70 yards for the opening score, and the rout was on as LWU scored on all but one of their drives from there through the first three quarters. The Blue Raiders outgained Faulkner with 440 yards to 277 and had 22 first downs, 10 more than the Eagles.
Tate Rice went 13-of-20 for 157 yards and three touchdowns for the LWU offense. Max Gainey scored two of those TDs with seven catches for 94 yards. Davontaye Saunders had 164 yards on 17 carries with two scores. Ronald Carr led the defense with 10 tackles, 1.5 for loss including a sack.
Despite the LWU defense's best efforts, Marshall had 219 yards of offense, rushing for 82 on 13 carries and completing 18 of 33 passes for 137 yards, a touchdown and a pick. Faulkner first got on the board with a field goal after a 60-yard run by Marshall. He got his team in the endzone to set the final score in the fourth with a 30-yard fourth-down pass to Darian Riggs, who caught four Marshall passes for 42 yards. Kentrell Borden led the receivers with 44 yards on five receptions. Caleb Williams paced the D with 11 stops, seven of them solo and one for loss, with two pass breakups.
Faulkner plays at home for the last time this season next weekend on Saturday, November 1 at 1:30 pm against No. 6 Campbellsville for Homecoming and Military Appreciation Day.
