MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Faulkner trailed No. 11 Campbellsville 13-9 early in the second quarter, but could not keep pace with the Tiger offense who scored 49 unanswered to hand the Eagles a 62-13 loss Saturday afternoon at Billy D. Hilyer Stadium.
The Tigers (7-1, 3-1 MSC), coming off a one-point loss at Cumberland, took out some frustrations from their defeat last week, jumping to a 13-0 lead in less than eight minutes with two touchdown passes from Jett Engle.Â
Faulkner (4-5, 1-4 MSC) responded with a 12-play drive culminating in a 30-yard
Jacob Huff field goal to cut the deficit to 10.Â
The Eagles forced a three-and-out and drove 82 yards on seven plays, capped off by an 11-yard strike from
Duece Marshall to
Devin Townsend for Townsend's first touchdown of his career. After a failed two-point conversion, Campbellsville quickly drove down the field and scored in two minutes and forced three-and-out before a 10-play 62-yard drive to take the momentum away from Faulkner and push the game to a three-score contest.Â
The Tigers took a 34-9 lead into half, before scoring two more touchdowns in the last two quarters.Â
Faulkner rushed for 147 yards on the afternoon with three ball-carriers over 20 yards.
Nigel Dowdell led the defensive efforts with seven tackles and a forced fumble.
The Eagles hit a much needed bye week after eight straight weeks of games before traveling to Cumberland to wrap up the season on Nov. 15 with a chance to improve to .500 on the season.Â
