MOBILE, Ala. - Faulkner ran its run streak to four with just the second ever win at Mobile Saturday afternoon with a 2-1 result as
Juan Rojas scored in the 86th minute to push the Eagles to 10 wins and firmly secure the program's highest seedline in the SSAC Men's Soccer Championship at No. 3.
The Eagles got ahead first in the 52nd when Pepé Riofrio picked out
Matheus Magnusson with a free kick. Magnusson nodded it home for his first goal as an Eagle and Riofrio's ninth career assist.Â
Just three minutes later, a mistake cost Faulkner a goal as Guido Solaro capitalized on a misplayed pass to level the match for Mobile.Â
The Rams pushed for a winner that would have potentially earned them a home match in the playoffs, but Faulkner held strong and paid it off when
Juan Rojas shot from the right side of the end line and snuck the ball near post past the keeper for the winner in the 86th. It's the fourth time this season the Eagles have scored a decision changing goal in the 80th or later.Â
Andre Ferreira followed up his stellar performance against William Carey with a six save outing against Mobile.Â
Faulkner picked up its 10th win of the season and will host either Mobile or Dalton State in the first round of the SSAC Men's Soccer Championship sometime next weekend, depending on the result of the Dalton State and Life match that will determine five different seedlines. More information will follow.
