MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Faulkner picked up a solid three points Thursday night after a 12 day layoff with a 3-1 win over Blue Mountain at Billy D. Hilyer Stadium in SSAC action.
The Eagles took a 1-0 lead into the locker room after a fairly uneventful first half that saw only two shots on goal with
Andre Ferreira saving a fifth minute effort and
Konsti Witte draw a penalty in the 21st minute. Witte smashed the penalty down the middle to take the lead and score his ninth goal of the season.
Asaph Silveira doubled the Faulkner advantage in the 51st minute, intercepting a slow back pass and slotting in an easy finish for his fifth goal of the year. Blue Mountain's Dipanda Silva was found by Daniel Nunes and Silva tucked away the goal to make it 1-0 in the 56th.
In the 79th, Faulkner found its separation needed when
Julio Cesar big-boyed three Blue Mountain defenders, dribbled through the contact and fired a goal to the opposite post to make it 3-1 and seal the win. It was his 16th career goal and tied him for fifth all-time with
Leo Freire and Sam Kelly (2019-2021)
Faulkner improves to 6-3-2 overall and 2-1-1 in SSAC play. The Eagles welcome UT Southern to The Bill Saturday for a pivotal SSAC matchup at 7:30 p.m.
During halftime of the women's game, the team honored 10 seniors.
