MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Faulkner's veterans led the way on senior day with
Oluwatomisin Eludipo's first hat trick of the season and
Cassie Jackson's second hat trick in three matches as the Lady Eagles scored six in the second half in an 8-0 win over SSAC foe Blue Mountain Thursday night at Billy D. Hilyer Stadium.
Faulkner celebrated nine seniors before kickoff and found a couple of more reasons to celebrate in the first half as
Ellie McKay's 13th minute corner found Eludipo who headed home the goal on the back post to score what proved to be the match winner. About 20 minutes later, Jackson got on the end of a
Kailee Cox cross and tucked away the goal to double the lead. Despite the 2-0 lead, Faulkner felt like there could have been a little more in the half, shooting 23 times but finding just two goals.Â
The Eagles rapidly pulled the match out of reach in the second half, as
Chloe Cooper threw into Eludipo who shot a bottom corner finish from the opposite side of the box to take the 3-0 lead in the 49th. Jackson added another in the 56th minute with a skillful dribble and finish before
Yury Santaclara scored her first Faulkner goal in the 60th with a perfect curler from the top of the box.Â
Tomi completed her first career hat trick and scored her 6th goal in three matches when Cooper delivered a great through ball to the Nigerian forward who converted the one-on-one chance in the 62nd. Just seven minutes later,
Imara Nesbitt forced a high turnover and had a two-on-one that she passed to Jackson to complete her hat trick. Just over two minutes later,
Zykira Marbury scored off a perfectly timed volley from 30 yards out over the keeper and off the bar and in to set the 8-0 scoreline.Â
Jackson moved even with Latoya Panton (2008-2012) with 21 career goals for a tie for seventh in program history.
The Lady Eagles outshot the Toppers 44-1 and did not allow a shot on target as
Mireia Ferrero Rosino,
Taylor Waters and
Olevia Brasher combine for a shutout.Â
Joanna Marlow,
Rori Taylor, and
Briley Brasher all made their varsity debuts Thursday night as well.Â
The Lady Eagles improve to 6-5-1 overall and 2-3 in SSAC play.Â
Faulkner welcomes UT Southern Saturday night for a 5 p.m. kickoff at The Bill.Â
