MONTGOMERY, Ala. - After Faulkner (6-4, 2-1 SSAC) used a 12-4 run to lead by 11 at the half, the Eagles appeared to be in good shape to snap their three-game skid. Receiving votes Mobile (7-5, 2-1 SSAC) refused to go away, though, inching closer in the second half before pouring in a 24-11 run with four threes to lead 67-63 with 3:08 left to play. The Eagles refused to let the Battle of I-65 rivalry get away from them at Tine Davis Gymnasium, however, closing the game on a 15-5 run to dispatch the Rams 78-72 on Saturday.
Levi White started the comeback with a dunk off the assist from Jordyn Turner-Durley. KJ Rogers tied it up on a pair of free throws, and Turner-Durley put Faulkner up from the charity stripe off a White steal and his own offensive rebound. Mobile tied it back with a jumper by Zion Hunter, but Turner-Durley gave his team the lead for good on the next trip down with a layup and the and-one through the contact by Hunter. In response to a Mason Sword jumper that got Mobile within one at 72-71 with 18 seconds left, Rogers hit his two free throws to restore a three-point advantage before he and Gideon Harris closed out the game from the line.
Free throws truly made the difference down the stretch, as it was the only area in which Faulkner outshot the Rams, doing so by a margin of 78.1% to 70.6%. Mobile won the field goal shooting battle 41% to 37.5% and three-point percentage 37% to 26.3%.
