MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Faulkner trailed for all of 79 seconds Saturday on the way to a 101-66 blowout victory over Loyola. The Eagles led by as many as 43 points in the game and sat their starters for the bulk of the second half. Faulkner made 17 threes in the game and notched 20 assists while shooting 64.9 percent from the floor in the game.
The Eagles took control of the game with a 21-0 run that lasted from the 2:21 mark of the first half until 17:42 left in the second. During that 4:19 stretch, Loyola turned the ball over five times while the Eagles countered by knocking down seven of their nine attempts from the floor. Faulkner later mounted an 11-2 run on an 80 percent shooting stretch to move the lead to 75-38 on a
Jonathan Garcia made three off a
Jeffrey Selden assist. From there, the Eagles began pulling their starters off the floor with 13:26 remaining in the game.
Faulkner shot 64.9 percent from the floor and 63 percent from beyond the arc. The Eagles knocked down eight threes in the first half to carry a 51-30 lead into the locker room. They followed suit in the second, making nine more triples.
Eleven of the 13 players who entered the game for the Eagles scored.
Gabriel Rivera paced Faulkner with 25 points in 25 minutes. Maleik Sadler added 15 points in 20 minutes while Garcia finished with 15. Selden had nine points and five assists while
Jordan Johnson finished with nine points and six assists.
Faulkner (17-7, 8-5 SSAC) returns to action Wednesday when it travels to Pulaski, Tenn. to take on Tennessee Southern in a game that tips at 7:30 p.m.
