WALESKA, Ga. - Faulkner Golf wrapped up the first tournament of the Mike Rogers era with the men finishing fifth in the Eagle's Open and two top-25 finishes for the Lady Eagles who competed as individuals at Lake Arrowhead Country Club Monday and Tuesday.
Shelby Hughes earned her highest finish of her Faulkner career, with a 12th place finish, shooting a 31-over-par just two shots out of the top 10 with an 11-over-par third round. Hughes's previous highest finish was 23rd in the first tournament last season.
Eden Shipp's Tuesday proved to be her best with a 17-over-par to finish 24th.
The men stayed in the same spot but shot the best round of their tournament carding a 16-over-par 300 Tuesday as a team. The Eagles were led by
Juan Cespedes whose three-over-par 74 tied
Leo Testas for the lowest score of the day for the squad. Cepedes finished 13th overall to lead the leaderboard for Faulkner. Testas wrapped up his first college event with an 18-over-par finish in 28th.
Garrett Jurkofsky turned in a six-over-par 77 to close the first event of the season in 18th.
Lucas Nicola carded a 4-over-par to finish 19th.
Mac Moorer's college debut ended with him tied with Testas for 28th, carding a five-over-par on Tuesday.
Judson Graham shot a 43-over-par tournament, closing with a 12-over-par third round.
Cooper Osborne matched the effort of Graham on Tuesday and placed 54th.
Ernest Juglar finished one place ahead of Osborne in 53rd with a 47-over-par event but shot his best round Tuesday ending seven-over-par.
The teams are back in action September 6 and 7 at the Skyhawk Fall Invitational in Lanett, Ala. hosted by Point.
