MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Faulkner controlled the match from start to finish but ended up having to hold on for a 2-1 victory over Shorter Tuesday night at Billy D. Hilyer Stadium.
The Lady Eagles outshot the Hawks 23-4 on the night with 16 shots on target and allowed no shots on target for the last 52 minutes of the match. Faulkner cashed in with a pair of corner kicks in the second half delivered by
Yury Santaclara. Just two minutes into the second half, Santaclara found
Cassie Jackson on the back post who squared across to
Ellie McKay who knocked in her first goal as a Lady Eagle in the 47th minute.Â
Just seven minutes later, Santaclara picked out Jackson again but the striker thundered home the corner on the volley for her first goal of the year. On the season, Faulkner has scored six goals, all with different scorers. Santaclara leads the team with three assists, all from the corner.Â
An unlucky bounce for Faulkner put Shorter back into the contest in the 80th minute with an own goal to make it 2-1 despite the Hawks getting just one off frame shot in the entire half and Faulkner continuing to pepper the goal.Â
The Lady Eagles held on to see out their second win of the season and improve to 2-1.Â
Taylor Waters picked up three saves in the win.Â
Faulkner welcomes US Sports University on Monday Sept. 8. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m.
