MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Faulkner commanded the match en route to a 2-0 win over US Sports University Monday night at Billy D. Hilyer Stadium outshooting the visiting Eagles 28-2 in the evening and allowing just one shot on frame in the contest.
On the first counter attack chance of the evening, the Lady Eagles took over with
Leeanne Alsobrook curling around a couple defenders and playing
Zykira Marbury through in the 30th minute. Marbury got around a couple of markers and played another ball perfectly through to
Cassie Jackson. Jackson shot around the charging keeper and tallied her second goal of the year, becoming the first Lady Eagle with multiple goals as the team has found a balanced goal scoring approach in the early stages of the season.
Faulkner held the 1-0 lead into halftime and found the second goal after a hectic sequence off a corner.
Yury Santaclara delivered a corner in and found
Imara Nesbitt whose first shot was blocked and fell to Alsobrook whose shot was saved off the line but fell back to Nesbitt for the follow-up goal. The Bahamas native became the seventh different Lady Eagle to score this season.
Faulkner improves its record to 3-1 and has outshot their foes 51-6 over the last two matches.
The Lady Eagles hit the road for a Thursday/Saturday road trip in Florida for the first road matches of the season. Faulkner starts with Ave Maria on Thursday at 11 a.m.
