MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Lady Eagles defense held strong around an excellent performance from
Mireia Ferrero Rosino but the No. 17 Life Running Eagles found three late goals to spoil what started to feel like potentially a special night at Billy D. Hilyer Stadium Saturday night in a 3-0 result.
The Lady Eagles got out of danger early with back-to-back shots hitting opposite posts before Rosino stopped the third straight shot in the sequence just one minute into the match.
The defense continued to bunker and frustrate the Running Eagles with the keeper saving seven shots in the first frame including a diving save as time ran out in the half to head to the break scoreless after 45 minutes.
Faulkner saw some good chances on the counter attack in the second half but could not find the moment to put the visitors on the ropes.
The night crescendoed into a belief that an upset may occur in the 67th minute when Life was alone on goal after getting around Rosino, but
Mekenzie Bettis perfectly timed a slide tackle to knock the ball out and deny the imminent opening tally.Â
However, Life found a brilliant set piece when Marey Helgadottir floated a pass from Lilja Olafsdottir from the top right of the box into the left side netting in the 70th for the first goal.
Life added to the lead in the 76th and 84th minutes to seal the game and spoil the upset bid.
Faulkner regroups and gets ready to take on Point Saturday afternoon at 1:30 central.Â
