WEST POINT, Ga. - The Eagles scored early and often with three goals in each half while holding Point to just one shot in a 6-0 thrashing of Point Saturday afternoon at River Bowl Stadium in SSAC action.
Faulkner (5-3-2, 1-1-1 SSAC) opened the scoring in the 10th minute when
Gustavo Nau headed in a scramble in the box from a set piece just over the line for his first career goal.
The Eagles added to it when
Joel Gomez's cross found Asaph Siveira on the back post for the easy tap-in in the 16th minute. Silveira now has four goals and four assists on the season.
Konsti Witte got on the end of a
Angel Ugwumba pass at the near post and got it past the keeper for his seventh goal of the season to tie his assister in the 44th minute.
Caio de Luna Gomes was tripped up in the box in the 65th minute and
Leo Freire stepped up and fired the penalty into the side netting for his first goal of the season and his 16th as an Eagle, tying him for fifth most in program history with Sam Kelly.
Iago Ramm got his first Faulkner goal in the 74th when
Leo Freire drilled a cross to Pepé Riofrio who tipped the ball towards Ramm who slid home the goal to make it 5-0 and score the most goals by one team in the series history.Â
Faulkner wasn't done there when Freire found
Angel Ugwumba in the 88th minute who made no mistake with the one-on-one chance to reclaim the team goals lead.Â
Defensively, Faulkner shut down Point (3-4-1, 0-3 SSAC), allowing just one shot the entire match against an offense that had averaged nine shots per game in the first two SSAC contests. The shot was saved by
Andre Ferreira who picked up his first clean sheet.
On the whole, Faulkner outshot Point 20-1 with 13 of those on target.
The Eagles' six goals by six different players is the most since August 23, 2023 when seven different Eagles scored against Huntingdon in a 7-1 win.Â
Faulkner takes a week off before welcoming Blue Mountain on Oct. 9 at Billy D. Hilyer Stadium.
