MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Every single Eagle that played scored as Faulkner set a 4-year era record for scoring in a 111-89 point romp in the Battle of I-85 against Point Saturday afternoon in Tine Davis Gymnasium.
Point led 32-29 with 7:07 to go in the first half, but
Kamal Green II hit a jumper before a three on the following possession to take the lead with 5:10 to play. The two baskets started a 13-1 run over a two minute span to flip the game on its head with the Eagles going 5-5 from the floor with a couple of steals on the other end. The half closed on a 27-7 run with Green going for 14 in the span to lead 56-39 at half.
The Eagles continued to pour it on in the second half, leading by as much as 37 with 10:11 to play. Faulkner emptied the bench with 8:31 to play and a 33 point lead.
The 111 points is the most since Nov. 2, 2018 when the Eagles scored 110 against Point and is the most that we have been able to track in the four-year era.
Faulkner shot frequently and effectively with 14 made threes on 41 total makes led by Green's career high 21. Jordyn-Turner Durley scored 16 and
Levi White added 11. The trio of
Gideon Harris,
KJ Rogers and
Francois-Dony Baba had nine each.
Tanner Vogel and
Micah Thomas had seven.
Gabriel Rivera added six.
Jerome Thomas and
Joshua Davis III had four.
Malachi Smith and
Ahmad Johnson had three each with
Dillion Martey adding two.
Thomas led the team with seven assists and eight rebounds. The Eagles outrebounded the Skyhawks by 13 with 16 offensive boards.
The Eagles turned the ball over just eight times and scored 23 points off turnovers. The bench scored a season high 64 points in the win.
The win is the ninth consecutive victory against Point and moves the Eagles to 10-1 since 2000 against the Skyhawks.
Faulkner moved into a tie for second in the SSAC and in the SSAC West with a 7-2 record. The Eagles welcome Life, who share second place and are first in the SSAC East with a 7-2 league record as well, Thursday night at 7:30.
